Technopax, Another Social Network - Attempts to Connect “Techies”
Email It!
It’s been a while since social networks have become a common place of “hangout”. Even the way, a social network could be used, has changed from just writing messages to each other to targeting commodities and services taking advantage of “social feeds” and human psyche to building brand images by interacting with and engaging with people. Gradually, the idea of networking got more niche and it branched out to professional networking, campus networking and the likes. This is when sites like LinkedIn and BigAdda came up with innovation. Today, almost every self-respecting tech professional has a profile on LinkedIn and BigAdda has come up a big way in becoming one of the largest Indian social networking sites.
Technopax is the newest kid around the block that focuses on the software professionals in India. It is a platform created for the IT sector to be able to network (a very cliched term, I know) with each other, share ideas and stay abreast with the latest industrial developments.
It just seems that everyone around is too keen to ride on the social networking wave that is currently sweeping the internet space. What amazes me, all the more, is there still doesn’t seem to be any dearth of men and women who are still enthusiastic about joining the latest social networking site and “try it out”.
P.S. - I wish Technopax.com was created a little more tastefully and with better functionalities, given the fact that this site has exclusively been created for the IT professionals. Most of the pages look more of a forum than a site. What is a killer piss-off is the right click that has been disabled all throughout the web site. D’oh! Do these guys really expect “IT professionals” not to have ever heard of “ScreenShot”?
Rajiv Adds: Well, there is also Techtribe.com which is funded by Canaan Partners (which just announced that it’s increasing investments in India) and which has been around for a while now (about 2 years). The vertical networking space is interesting but I feel it needs to be approached from the “Content -> Community -> Commerce” perspective. A vertical network has to be revolved around killer content which lacks in most of these vertical networks that are trying to come up. A classic success story is Pagalguy.com, which is The Place to go to, for CAT aspirants and with a forum platform, they have built a set of highly engaged audience, despite a very niche vertical.

Technopax isn’t a gr8 site. I doubt it can attract professionals.
No About Us page, No address or details of company behind it.
Add to that right clicks have been disabled (dunno why?) that to using free codes from dynamicdrive (and the worst part, a non coder like me could figure that out in under 10secs)
Yeah, I know. I was trying to know a little more about the founders but all i got is a huge, blank wall. Moreover, disabling right clicking, i believe, is so passe and suggests a noob job.
its not too far from people coming to know tht … disabling JavaScript in their browser will overcome any client side security …..
It seems that SNS is still heating up in India
this uses some ready to use software it seems….any1 can guess which one ?
Seriously, this one sucks ….
If you are launching so late in the trend, you got to have some USP. This one does not seem to have any.
“About Us” page is the basic. Without that, how can i know that my data is not going out to the black market.
I am more amazed to know, how did this feature on WatBlog, on which I have heard, they do a lot of screening before they post anything.
Even my website was not covered, though it was a bit better than this.
