- DailyMotion.com eyes original content to gain users in India - In a bid to ward off competition from YouTube, DailyMotion.co has decided to invite original content creators, like movie makers & advertising agencies, to upload their works on the video sharing web site.
- Paanchvi Pass now moves on to digital media - Star Plus, along with Bulldog Media and entertainment, formed an association with Indiatimes in an effort to adapt this Shahrukh Khan hosted game show on personal computers, mobile phones, DTH & IPTV.
- Use of internet bandwidth not liable to tax - Delhi High Court rules that usage of internet bandwidth of an offshore company, to provide internet access to its internet subscribers, is not subject to TDS.
- Facebook penetrates China, world’s leading web market - Facebook finally comes out with a simple Chinese version. Visitors from mainland Chinaget automatically diverted to zh-cn.facebook.com every time they log in. Faceboo, currently, is available in over 20 languages.
- DoT rejects TRAI’s view on 3G auction - The Department of Telecom has rejected TRAI’s recommendation to limit auction of 3G spectrum to existing UASL users. According to the draft, if a non-UASL licensee bids successfully, it will be given a separate UASL for the concerned license area.
- Hutch deal not taxable in India : Vodafone to HC - Vodafone International Holding terms its 8,000 crore tax liabilities (claimed by the IT department) as “an imposition of penalty” without jurisdiction.
- 3G iPhone scam targeting Latin America - Websense Security Labs detected n innocuous-looking trojan named “presentacion.mov.exe” that is sent attached with emails promising the recipients an exclusive look into the brand new 3G iPhone that was launched by Apple.
- Microsoft’s first step in accepting OpenID signons -Microsoft finally takes up OpenID sign-in options with HealthVault. However, currently it recognizes only Trustbearer and Verisign as “secure” OpenID providers. This sparks off a very interesting read on TechCrunch. A must-follow link for WATBlog readers.
- New South Wales schools dump Outlook for GMail - I personally believe that this is a huge slap on Microsoft’s face. After Sydney’s Macquarie University, it’s the New South Wales schools that decide to replace their existing Outlook email platform by GMail.
- Same OLPC XO boots both Sugar Linux & Windows XP - These litte XO’s are turning out to be quite a desireable breed of gadgets that brings affordable and easy internet browsing in the hands of the less unfortunate. Okay, I know they aren’t that affordable but ain’t the technology still in a nascent stage? Do check this beauty out.
