Again, I just wish you had quoted the complete sentence. It doesn’t mean that Google has started placing cookies for the first time…what I wanted to convey that Google has been placing cookies for the first time in order to report times of visits to certain links in the search result.

Its part of the google web history feature that every user who is registered on google has access to. http://www.google.co.in/history/?hl=en

Its been there for a long time and the information is stored on google servers via the web history platform.

Hey Shayan, this feature has been active from many months, I think almots an year. Wheever a user logs in google usein the sign in option on the top right handside and then searches for something, this information is displayed for visted sites, this is not someting that is new

I am not very sure or confident about this is new thing. Two problems.

(1)I’m observing this atleast since 2 years now. And (2)It’s based on yr login on computer not on cookies as I can see that on home computer when I visit from work computer so it works with email ID you are logged in.
Easy way to find out just delete cookies from your browser and check if still the case. I am not sure but it should show up after that too. (make sure you are logged in)
One more point, when you are logged in if you see your web search history everything is stored online with your log in ID which makes google not to store on cookies.

Google has been doing this for quite some time now. Time recording has always been part of personalized search results. You can disable logging by turning off search history.
