We had blogged about the broad mobile advertising models before and have also done a round up of various sms advertising players out there in the market. Currently, this market is very nascent. Its pegged at just 40 crores, which is almost the same size at which online advertising was pegged at way back in 2000’s, even with the nascent internet penetration at that time.

However, it seems, more and more mobile ad players, be it standalone or current internet companies with interest in mobile ads, have sprung up in the last couple of years and the reason behind could be the mobile advertising market which is set to be ten times of its current size in just 5 years.

Mobile2Win Corporate Development and Strategy Head Gopala Krishnan stated in this BS article that “In the next five years we are expecting the mobile advertising sector to reach a turnover of Rs 500 crore,”

The article further states that the current revenue share is split at 70:30 ratio between operators and the companies. On the whole it does seem that mobile operators will be a beneficiary whether or not mobile advertising companies make it big or no.

  1. mobile is certainly the next big thing, though bugged with lots of limitations as of now….i guess by 2010 internet advertising will be mainstream media, and mobile advertising will be the emerging media !
