Its seems the power of UGC (user generated content) is finally breaking the walls of traditional media houses down and entering into their chambers. If you think thats rubbish feed on this news piece which states that mid-day.com which is an noon time newpaper very popular in mumbai and also has a publication in bangalore has tied up with Video sharing site dailymotion.com to power UGC on their website.

 middaydailymotion

Here is what both daily motion founder and mid-day editor had to say on the alliance:

Didier Rappaport, Co-founder of Dailymotion, said, “I am extremely happy to partner with Mid-Day and respect the pioneering steps taken by it to enable citizen journalism with Dailymotions’s new media tools. Both are young and dynamic organisations and leaders in their respective domains.”

Commenting on the partnership, Shishir Joshi, Group Editorial Director, Mid-Day Multimedia, said, “Mid-Day as a group is committed to convergence and multi-media. Our partnership with Dailymotion will go beyond the written and audio forms of communication. It is highly enriching for the journalist as well as the target audience.”

Well I went on mid-day.com but failed to found any sign of dailymotion. I guess they announce first and implement later :) But none the less this shows that the traditional media is willing and possibly acknowledging the need to give the power to publish in the hands of the reader themselves. The use of video to do the same is an interesting move given that mid-day is primarily a print newspaper and has no AV component i.e. it doesn’t have a TV show/news channel or anything offline. It just shows that they see an opportunity to do more with the web than they do with their offline business.
