Technorati is a well known blog aggregator which has been around for quite sometime now. Infact technorati rank is one of the standards many bloggers use to pit their blogs against the others in the blogosphere. So it was a natural extension for technorati to provide tools to bloggers in order to monetise their traffic. This and the sudden rise of the number of adnetworks from federated media and six apart has caused Technorati to take the unavoidable step of launching its own ad network Technorati Media.

Ad networks have been mushrooming all over in India as well with atleast half a dozen of them already in the market and another half a dozen looking to launch soon. Even google has got aggressive with its adsense platform by contacting publishers directly (We know coz they contact WATBlog recently.)

According to techcrunch Technorati already has a list of beta advertisers which include Honda, Acura, Toyota, t-mobile, Adobe, HP, Sandisk, MSFT, Verizon, Sun, Sony, Visa, Nike, Scion, Chevrolet, Paramount, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Best Buy.

Ads will be sold on a CPM (Cost per thousand impressions basis and the revenue share between publishers and the ad network is negotiable. As mentioned in our earlier post on ad networks this mushrooming of ad network players will encourage the increase of the long tail of self sustained and run publishing networks be it blogs or news sites. In a country like India where localization seems to be the key local content could become premium as well if these ad networks are able to get a broad base of advertisers over time and cater to the lowest common denominator as far as publisher and advertisers is concerned. Hope atleast some ad networks get there..

Well with respect to India the thing that WAT members are internally discussing is the need for a blog ad network in India? Would Advertisers accept it? Would bloggers accept it? Is there a business prospect for the same? What do you guys think?
