In a move to capture a portion of the ever so lucrative mobile advertising market in India Yahoo has announced a tie up with Idea cellular. We had blogged earlier on the broad mobile advertising models in India. Its seems like the mobile space is seeing more action these days in India than the online space. What with the tie ups happening across the board be it mobile advertising, mobile payments or even mobile search.

The latest on mobile search is again Yahoo onesearch tie up with MTNL. Yahoo had previously tied up with Reliance Communications, BSNL and BPL Mobile for the same (not sure what happened to those tieups).

Besides for MTNL it has also tied up with 4 other telecom operators across the globe namely Hong Kong CSL Limited (CSL), Smart Communications Inc. (Smart, Philippines), Digital Mobile Phlis, Inc. (SUN Cellular, Philippines) and Vibo Telecom Inc. (Vibo, Taiwan). Yahoo has also announced localized versions of Yahoo! Go 3.0 for India, Australia and Southeast Asia, including a local language version for Indonesia, and an English version of Yahoo! oneSearch with voice that recognizes regional accents.

Mobile advertising doesn’t seem to be only limited to the yahoo’s and the google’s of the world as even digital agencies like Buongiorno are also launching their own mobile advertising solutions. Going forward I see both display and sms based mobile advertising and search to be very active in India. The mobile adoption is high in this market and its the right time for these players to open shop and be ready.
