Paymate which was recently in the news for raising funding and now it has come in the news again for a new tie up with Sify iWay chains of cybercafe’s across the country to promote its Giftmate mobile vouchers for both online and offline shopping. Paymate has a lot going for it especially the recent RBI guidlines that allowed use of mobile payments for upto an amount of 1500 rupees.

According to the release The unique features of this product allow customers to use them in varying denominations and on multiple visits at any of PayMate’s merchant partners, both online and offline. this tie up means that Sify iWay customers can now shop for anything from electronics, apparels and even book flight and movie tickets with their PayMate vouchers. Moreover, they can also send a GiftMate voucher via SMS to their family and friends.
On the occassion of the tie up Ajay Adiseshann, founder and managing director, PayMate India said “The PayMate and Sify partnership enables online users and those reluctant to use cards online, to transact online. This would definitely give a fillip to e-commerce in the country, since only 10 per cent of online users actually transact online.”
On the whole things are looking up for the Paymate as the RBI seems to be supportive with its guidelines for mobile commerce and the over all mobile segment booming with the subscribers numbers touching the roof!

First thing Paymate needs to do is expand it partner banks so that more people can join its services. I have a Citibank credit card and an Axis bank account, both not yet eligible to register at Paymate. Same is with ICICI bank account holders. How do you intend to grow the service?
Thanks for the update Palin. I guess being a new medium of payment even banks would be apprehensive but the very fact that they are managing all the developments they are is commendable.
