WAT’s Up Online ?

Other than the odd 8-10 posts that you see on WATBlog every day, a lot of news , views and articles get forwarded to each of the WAT Team members every day. It’s not possible to put all of them on WATBlog every day. So, I thought of selecting a few of the better ones out of them and collating them in one

1.)      MySpace Might Have Friends, but It Wants Ad Money

In 2006, Google announced a $900 million ad deal with MySpace. The realities sets in, News Corp (owner of MySpace) announced they will be missing the revenue targets. A wake up call for all people going the SNS way.

2.)    YouTube has Michelle Obama’s critics caught in a web of truth

An article with a political tone. Here is an excerpt – Television is still deserving of the title “idiot box,” but YouTube is an idiot resource that also offers incendiary truth in such detail that buttery lies are melted right before your eyes.

3.)    Facebook No Longer The Second Largest Social Network (Techcrunch)

No. Contrary to what the title might suggest, no other site has taken over to become the second largest SNS. Actually, Facebook, apparently, “caught up” with MySpace, internationally. The posts have screenshots of both sites traffic.

4.)    Where TV and the Web converge, there is Hulu

How Hulu has successfully brought TV to the Internet. Despite the hype from competitors like Joost, why Hulu is the best TV service on the Internet, this post explains it all. Some really kool comparisons with Youtube, Veoh and of course, Joost.

5.)    Internet and Websites : The Battle of the Browsers – The History

The complete browser wars history. From Mosaaic Vs. NetScape to Netscape Vs IE to IE Vs Firefox. Can’t resist quoting this line - Internet Explorer had one other ace it held over Netscape – it was much better.

6.)    Top Tip: Windows Vista or Windows XP for student laptop?

Now this is an interesting one. Very short, but see the conclusion. Here is an excerpt – “I would avoid Windows Vista as long as possible, on a laptop or any other PC. It’s “bloatware,” loaded with useless, non-essential garbage that has nothing to do with launching applications or managing your files”

7.)    Educomp Funded LearnHub Redesigns; To Focus On India (ContentSutra)

Educomp is an interesting Indian Internet company. Related article : WATBlog’s coverage of LearnHub launch

8.)    Internet use doubles in White House race – survey

Well, a survey of how the U.S. presidential candidates have been using the Internet for their campaigns. I’m still wondering how much do we have to wait before we see the same in India.

9.)    Google Tools Will Tell You If Your ISP Is Slowing Down Your Connection

Latest from Google Labs

10.)       Ash posts on RGV’s blog

That’s Aishwarya Rai. Need I say more ?

    I think what really peeves the India Inc. is the lack of observations around internet in India, while myspace is fighting a battle with facebook, there are different kinds of storms the indian companies are facing – internet is still not a mass-media, Internet is evolving day-in and day-out. Mobile industry has outgrown the growth of newspaper industry. There are certain trends that people ‘talk’ about but no one has consolidated them barring few initiatives like pluggd.in. I think to deliver more value what you guys really need to do is to think through the various trends with regards to Indian market on internet and give ‘value add’ by analysing them in light of what companies are doing and what can they do using internet as a medium in India. I think that is a big miss in your initiative. Otherwise, and pardon me for my choice of semantics – this ‘global gyan’ is available across websites on the internet. Look forward to seeing more of that stuff

    @Raghav
    Read it again, dude. We are continuously posting 8-10 posts. We had 10 posts yesterday.

    @Shitij
    TOtally agree with you, Shitij. Apart form this global gyaan, we need to put in more of in-depth analysis. We at WATBlog, try to put our own touch of analysis after every news. I think, that’s what we differentiates us. That was a very valuable feedback. We will try harder to get there. Thanks for reading. Please keep coming back. Looking forward to a lot more comments by you.
    :)

    @Raghav & @Ankit,

    I read WATBlog not for the quantity but the quality. I don’t have a lot of time to read blogs, so I don’t have time to sift through a lot of unimportant posts.
