Our Planet

OurPlanet is a new UK based travel site which tries its hand at being innovative. Basically it is launching a promotional travel tour which promises a few lucky travelers to provide them with a trip of a lifetime. The entire camp is termed as “The Global Nomad Campaign.”

The site offers these lucky guys to travel the world for one year. But you need to work for them too. Unfortunately no one  going to get paid for this. You just need to rate products and services in the travel industry.

Sounds fun? I guess not. OurPlanet will just be paying for the flights and you need to carry extra cash for your accommodation and food. This is something that I figured it out from their site which describes the entire camp.

The site describes their campaign as follows:

The Global Nomads are a group of people, who will travel around the world for a year. They will be responsible for acquiring content for the site, currently under development. Photos and reviews of products, services and locations in the travel industry.

Along the way, you will have a great time by doing anything & everything, you could possibly imagine. Swimming with Whale Sharks in Hawaii, Sky Diving in Sydney, Hand Gliding in Christchurch, drinking wine on the Seine, watching the morning mist in the Blue Mountains, Scuba Diving the Great Barrier Reef, seeing the great Temples or maybe just catching a few breaks in Oahu and cooking a BBQ.

If our team was younger, they would be doing this!!! To be honest, a few of us just want to do this, but someone needs to make the site…. So please do not expect us to always be happy, if we are in the office, while you are jumping out of planes, living the life of Riley.

We estimate you will need $1000 for the whole year, for food and contingencies.

I doubt the cost being $1,000 for the whole year. But this surely reminded me of a great man who once said “There are no free lunches.”

This will surely be a big turn off. I mean at first they expect people to take leave for a year or quit their job and besides that they need to carry cash. This entire thing is quite hilarious. But this is some kind of model which will be further exploited by other travel sites too. As today most of the people are connected to some sort of social networking sites like facebook, twitter, flickr….One can expect that many of them will surely share the pictures and their thoughts about the various products and their services with their friends. This will lead to mouth publicity and also create some sort of awareness and branding for the product and for the travel sites too.

I wouldn’t be surprised if our top Indian guns would be following the same model with little bit of changes. Instead of a year they can surely come up with a month or 15 days long vacation along with the accommodation and food.  All the winner has to do is review and test out the products of the company and their sponsors and give them a feedback. This will surely lead to the same impact as discussed above.

P.S. If you think you have plenty of money to spent and you are crazy enough to travel the world for one entire year either by quitting your job or whatever than Nomad Camp is just for you.

  1. This company is a scam. A guy named Ryan Flynn is behind this and he’s tried several other companies with similar idea to scam people.
