It was just recently that I was watching the “Green” carpet ceremony at the IIFA awards happening in Bangkok. The “Green” signified their support to the environmental causes to save the earth from global warming and other hazards. It seems a trend is brewing not only offline but also online as far as social awareness driven associations are concerned. Even WAT recently chose to associate with a social cause driven campaign.

Now it seems NDTV has taken both the offline and online route for supporting the environmentalists cause for protecting the environment. NDTV has launched a Reality TV show on environment as well has a special url on NDTV.com at green.ndtv.com that will be used to drive engagement for the show.

This entire TV show and website is being driven in collaboration with Toyota. According to Sanjay Trehan “The site and reality show are actually an extension of a nationwide environment campaign called ‘Open Up Tomorrow, Today’, which NDTV launched in May in partnership with Toyota.”

Besides for the web and TV NDTV plans to take the engagement to mobiles as well with the short code to 56388 through which they can submit entries.

Shāyon’s Take : It seems it’s high time to “go green”. I can understand the need of educating and inspiring the global citizens about the importance of environment protection. Sanjay Trehan says that the advertisements on the pages are just to make the site sustain itself. I shall rather suggest to market for these “green pages” as best as they do for the rest so that more could be earned out of those advertisements and the profits could be utilized for the cause. I don’t know how cost-effective would be my idea, but then again, we always have our readers to bank upon, to point out my flaw and come up with a much better solution.
