The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, which kicked-off on June 7th, is amongst the most viewed sporting events of the year with millions of viewers following their favorite teams’ progress.

I’m sure, the fans outside Austria and Switzerland (the joint hosts of the competition) really feel like going beyond the television set and experience the game in-person. For all these soccer-buffs, Google has come up with a simple answer, through Netvibes. Netvibes, as you all know, is a free start page that provides you with access to all your digital resources in one page. It will be equipped with a custom map to help people find their way around the Swiss cities Zurich, Bern , Geneva and Basel and the Austrian cities Vienna, Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Innsburk. All this data had been compiled with the help of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe Zurich) and SBB (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen also known as Swiss Federal Railways) of Switzerland and OBB (Österreichische Bundesbahnen - Austrian Federal Railways) of Austria.

Netvibes has also come up with features so that fixtures, standings and results along with their pre-match and post-match analysis can be viewed. So if there’s no Sky Sports or ESPN around, this thing’s gonna come in handy for you. Plus, highlights and goals can be viewed so that you don’t lose any of the fun. The amazing part is that you can get an alert as soon as Cristiano Ronaldo scores for Portugal.

You can very well log on to Euro’s official website and keep searching for what you want, but if you are getting everything on you dashboard, then why not go for Netvibes? It has a Google Earth, which has all the football grounds loaded in 3D. This will give all the fans an in-person experience.

There is also a Euro ‘08 widget which provides the user with interactive articles and the latest soccer news.

Now you won’t miss any of the thrill and remain updated up to 29th of June (that’s when Euro reaches its climax), with the Google- Netvibes through interactive customs maps, virtual globe and football alerts.
