More the days pass, more we find Orkut trying to emulate Facebook. First, it was the applications, then came along status messages and now photo tagging. If you have been keeping very close tab on Orkut, you must have noticed the brand new “Photos of Me” section on your home dashboard. Here’s a little screenshotfor you to check out :

How To Tag Photos on Orkut?

All you need to do is log on to your Orkut account, get into one of your albums and enlarge a photo. Now, you should be able to see a “add tag” link at the bottom right. Click on that and you should find a the mouse cursor change into a ‘+’.

Just click and drag to select anyone’s face and another dialog opens up where you can search and choose the friend’s name and you are done!

How is Orkut’s Photo Tagging SAME As Facebook’s?

  • The procedure of tagging a photo is the same.
  • Even Facebook allows users to tag photographs uploaded by other users.
  • Both Orkut and Facebook allows you to check out every pic on the whole site that is tagged with your name, irrespective of whether it’s you who uploads the photo or someone else.

How is Orkut’s Photo Tagging DIFFERENT To Facebook’s?

  1. Facebook allows their users to tag even those who are not registered on Facebook.
  2. It is possible to email user’s friends as they get tagged on a photo, on Facebook.

What More Is Expected Out of Orkut?

As for now, Orkut users can search for friends only by their display names. More often than not, people use a different name than their own as their display names. Users must able be to search other using their real names of at least their email ids.

Oh yes, I must thank one of our regular readers, Mohit, to bring this new change in feature to our knowledge. Way to go guys, do keep helping us with more info and guest posts!
