Firefox 3Breaking a World Record might be hard only if you are not some one like Firefox. Few days back they had released RC 1 of FF3 for public testing. And now Firefox is ready to set a new world record for “the most software downloads in a day.”

The actual date is yet to be revealed. But once it is out I bet the entire world is going to witness some heavy downloading. I have noted that plenty of people from around the world are actually pledging to download FF3. So far USA is leading with 10,753 members and Japan is in the second place with 5,489 people. Though there is a huge gap between the first and the second place I guess within few days it will be filled up.

This is what the official Firefox site has to say to its users regarding the world record:

Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

By the way, the official date for the launch of Firefox 3 will be posted here soon - so check back! Join our community and this effort by pledging today.

Here are some of the key features that Firefox 3 promises to deliver:

  • New Features: Firefox 3 is said to have the new innovation bar with very high and exciting new features, which includes one-click bookmarking, the smart location bar and lightning fast performance.
  •

  • Security: Firefox 3 includes phishing and malware protection along with new instant site ID info.
  •

  • Productivity: It is said to have features like built-in spell checking, session restore and full zoom which will make users life much simple and help them to work faster and more efficiently on the Web.
  •

  • Customization: Different people have different taste and Firefox 3 seems to understand it. It promises to deliver with more than 5,000 add-ons that will help you customize your browsing experience.

For now FF3 sounds good to me and I won’t be surprise if it is able to achieve the feat. For now I have kept my fingers crossed. What about you? Are you going to pledge for FF3? I just did.

  6. Good one just saw the numbers…US has gone to nearly 50K people. 2nd is Brazil with around 15K…

Rushabh I hope you have pledged…(I really hope that they are getting ready with the infrastructure that will be required for so many downloads)

@garima - If you are talking about the POK then I am afraid to tell you that POK in not considered to be a part of India (I know its sad). But even the maps by national geographic and BBC do not show that as part of India.
