It’s bad enough that we had to be subject to that trash called Dhoom 2 in the theatres, that fine people from FXLabs (notorious for the pathetic Agni) have decided to torture us with their 3-D rendition of what claims to be Dhoom 2.5 for the PC.

While Yash Raj studios signed a deal with FXLabs to scar gamers for life back in 2007, it seems that their plans will bear fruition  sooner than expected. I wonder what didn’t make the cut into the game which is allowing it to release earlier? Plausible gameplay? Decent graphics? A little better than mediocre voice-acting? Luckily no solid date has been pinned down apart from FXlabs stating “the wait would be over soon!”.

Since this is coming from the studio with claimed Agni met worldwide standards of quality we’re definitely skeptical about this one. And rightly so.

Harshil Adds: FXLabs is also creating a game for Ghajini – the soon to be released movie starring Aamir Khan (read all about the nonsense that stars dish out on their blogs). While it’s not clear if the game and movie will release simultaneously, it’s a good idea to do that because the game can capitalize on the PR focused around the movie. At the same time, games can be sold in movie theatres with revenue shares in mind.

Interestingly, the guys at Love Story 2050 have informed us about a game around the movie that will soon be released. The game is supposed to be released in the same month as the movie.

While selling PC games is a good ploy – it’s a direct ‘cut – copy – paste’ of the Hollywood Model. Indian Film Makers should recognize that audiences are CRAZY about films and film stars. So one option (especially with respect to multi star movies) could be to create competitions (gaming) where people can enact and actor and compete against another actor (audience in India have strong loyalties attached to their respective ‘loved’ stars).

Another option could be to make the movie a movement. Certain movies such as Chak De India & Taare Zameen Par have really touched audiences in a way that they have the opportunity to make the subject matter into a sustainable business (and this generally happens only in India). Imagine Taare Zameen Par starting a social network for all dyslexic kids and special schoolteachers, or setting up a special school themselves. Imagine them creating a community initiative (online and offline), which makes the topic of special children a pop cultural movement. Engagement is the name of the game. Engagement can be easily driven once something becomes popular and enters the comfort zone of people’s mind’s. Films are in a perfect position to do that.

If you haven’t had your daily dose of entertainment yet, then watch this video for the game Agni – it’s pathetic but hilarious.
