‘The Great Indian Developer Summit’ held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, saw large scale participation from the Bangalore IT Developer community.  On the  19th of May, 1200 developers attended the two day Bleeding-edge.NET conference.

The Great Indian Developer summit is an effort to bring together the world’s leading software giants, technology innovators, creators, and visionaries on the same platform, offering unique opportunity for Indian developers to hone their skills. The 2008 edition of  ‘The Great Indian Developer Summit’, centered around the theme of ‘Recipes for Enterprise Productivity’ and features a convergence of three conferences on technologies that no entity in the ‘Developer ecosystem’ can afford to miss in their quest for excellence – Bleeding-edge .NET, Rich Web and Daring Java.

Some of the luminaries who addressed the Bleeding-edge.NET conference on May 19-20th, 2008 included Todd Anglin, the ASP.NET Master speaking on “ASP.NET Ajax and the future of web development”, Jean Luc David, the Developer Advisor for Microsoft Canada speaking on “Hone Your Coding Kung Fu with best practices, Abhinav Gujjar, the .NET mobile expert speaking on “Developing mobile applications using .NET compact framework 3.5″, Erik Doernenburg on “Developer Productivity” among others.

Amit Chatterjee, General Manager- Microsoft India Development Center addressing the keynote on day two of the Great Indian Developer Summit said, “Traditional approaches have kept developers, testers, architects, project manager and others working in silo’s, leading to significant challenges with delivering projects on time. At Microsoft, we are transforming our offerings and spear heading this era with our Connected Devices, Connected Entertainment, Connected Productivity, Connected Business and Connected Development to reshape our offerings for individuals, businesses and developers and to deliver to a broad range of compelling scenarios.”

The .NET conference on May 19-20th saw some enlightening discussions by Todd Anglin who spoke about ASP.NET AJAX being the future of web development and how it would prepare the future developers.  He spoke in length about the working of AJAX, how it would be beneficial to the web developers and how it can be used safely with all modern browsers.   The focussed session on “Developer Productivity” by Erik Doernenburg also saw some active participation from the audience.

Speaking on the future of web development, Mr. Todd Anglin, Chief Technical Evangelist, Telerik said, “Understanding the future is critical for web developers. Decisions you make today need to be aware of what’s coming if you’re going to be successful on web.”

The Bleeding-egde.NET conference of the summit primarily focussed on the golden period of bleeding-edge enterprise development solutions that use Microsoft’s powerful developer tools, frameworks, and platforms. The conference also featured incisive insight through keynotes, focused sessions, hands-on workshops, chalk talks, and Birds of Feather (BoF) discussions throughout the day.

Talking about the Summit, Mr Dilip Thomas, Chairman and CEO of Saltmarch Media and Program Chair of Great Indian Developer Summit, said, “The Summit is an effort to recognise, reward, and invigorate the collective ecosystem of ‘Developers’; comprising of decision makers, analysts, architects, engineers, project managers, designers, and programmers. The developer ecosystem is what makes the world of software tick. India being one of the largest developer markets in the world, the summit has received tremendous response from the industry”.

”Music, navigation services and mobile TV are part of what had been anticipated to play a key role in spearheading the growth of Internet. But it had been notably clear that the driving business force backing this up is no other than the emerging India market where increasing numbers of people are accessing the Internet for the first time on their mobile rather than a PC. The proliferation of this demand in an immerse market like India has unveiled a world of opportunities left un-tapped,” D Shivakumar, Vice President & Managing Director, Nokia India.
