IM updates from Twitter are currently down. On the site they say that say that it’s due to an overflow of IM Traffic. This probably, as Rajiv says, is a result of Twitter’s recent funding.

Twitter has caused quite a rage and it has taken microblogging to a level where it is chic. The model obviously was going to be copied by the major social networks. Facebook (which is increasingly behaving like a big shark that Gobbles up business models) has now ‘followed’ Twitter (it might soon mark Twitter as a Favourite).

For American users they have been allowing SMS status updates for a while now. They are now looking at introducing the ‘reply’ feature within the platform so that one can update statuses and reply to statuses via SMS. To be fair to Facebook they always had microblogging figured out with status updates however with the popularity of Twitter springboarding they decided to make more use of it by having status updates broadcast on the home page (this has been happening for months now).

With Facebook’s new profile page structure, I think they probably might have an entire section dedicated to Microblogging. We found something quite funny yesterday – apparently Twitter claims that it was never designed as a messaging system.
