Coming Soon: Age Verification For Downloads In UK

According to an article by BBC, websites will now have to implement age verification for downloading video and video games in UK. This implementation will be over seen by British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
A research held by BBFC revealed that around 74% of parents were concerned about lack of ratings on downloads. They therefore plan to have this voluntary scheme which will require online services and video on demand schemes to have “age verification or gate-keeping systems in place for parents to monitor and control underage viewing”. They also plan to have online certificates for more than 1000 videos by the end of May.
Peter Johnson, head of policy at the BBFC said “It’s up to individual systems to work out how to introduce these technologies, But we will police it through test purchases.”
He further said the scheme, called BBFC.online, was not an attempt to censor the internet, nor to regulate online video gaming.
BBFC will be working with the key players of the video and video game industry like Disney, Warner and Fox.
But the question that arises in my mind is that how are they going to cope with sites like isohunts, mininova, and P2P services like limewire, ares and others. Over here one does not require to verify his age and can download multiple videos, games, softwares and more for free.

in future ..i m talking of very long time after…….digital mapping of users movement would be tracked very closely……why bcos by then crime in digital world wud be surpassing the other crimes……………so there is a huge scope for a company who can introduce services like digital identities same as ration card or pan card…which can be used for registration on internet sites……..though there are none now but it wud be the future………..ho
1 more thing as said above entirely possible as downloading from internationaal hosted site will not be bothered to ask for verification…….so government will remain helpless….untill the whole world take notice of cyber nuisances….especially america
