As per Microsoft’s posted timetable, it will show the exit door to its very popular Windows XP operating system.

This is despite Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s last month’s widely-reported speech where he said that the company might reconsider the decision to end retail and large computer-maker availability of XP on June 30.

Though system builders & market segment like low-cost PC manufacturers will get an extension, this means it will be available only if you happen to buy an assembled or low-end (<Rs 20,000) PC. Machines beyond this range or branded one will come bundled with Windows Vista.

You might be knowing that Galen Gruman, a longtime technology journalist started a “Save XP” web petition since January gathering more than 193,827 signatures & numbers of comments from the XP fan base.

Let’s check out the buzz in the social media in this context.

Though some noise was there on Facebook but orkut is still keeping mum.

Interestingly in contrary, Microsoft Windows Vista is officially on twitter whose tag line says – Stop Using Windows XP, I Dont Want To Hear It”

On the other hand, recently Microsoft released Windows XP Service Pack 3. Also, if you notice it’s been 17 months since release of the successor – Windows Vista. And honestly speaking, biggest rival of Windows Vista is Windows XP only & Bill Gates too somehow agrees with it.

Bill Gates says Vista sucks

Need proof, just watch the video above & to be precise it says:-

Q: Which software, which has come out in the last 5 years do you think you would apostle?
Bill Gates: If you had asked me this question after I had released the next version of Windows I would could be more Blunt in my answer!

  1. Well, to be honest Bill is speaking the truth this time atleast!!
I dunno how corporates are going to react to this, a behemoth of their desktops run XP, changing to vista is something they want to avoid for the time being.
For me, its still windows 2000 sp4 the most stable of all windows distro (need to check the update list in xp sp3 though).

I sincerely hope that MS continues to provide support for XP.

    Regards!

Vista? A total failuer, not because it took 5 years, bt because it failed to motivate users like XP did.

  2. In my office, previously i was using XP, When I changed my project the new cutomer gave everyone a new PC which is having Vista.. now we’ve to use vista anyway.. i’ve a very fast workstation that have 5 GB RAM inserted and 512 GB HDD space.. so on this machine, Vista never be a problem for me..
But i still like the XP.. there is lots of reason behind this related to technology..
