IPLT20 mania is reaching its peak lately with the teams moving into the second round of clashes with each other in the run up to the semi finals. So if last time we discussed about the website wars and how each website compared to the other in terms of traffic. This time we are looking at community management or fan base that these teams are garnering online through their own sites and through other social media communities with IPL being one of the hottest properties on television right now.

An article in ET states the following stats for community sizes of Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Dare Devils and Bangalore Royal Challengers..

KolkataKnightRiders.com - 37,000 registered users

DelhiDaredevils.com - 30,000 registered users

Royal Challengers.com - 10,000 registered users

I did a bit of research myself and found that other teams had the following fan base

DeccanChargers.com - 8500 registered fans

While MumbaiIndians, RajasthanRoyals and KingsXIPunjab have no statistics given on their website on the number of registered users/community members.

While ChennaiSuperKings is now contemplating to have a fan community option on their websites and they plan to give different priviledges to different members. According to India Cements marketing head Rakesh Singh “We will have three kinds of memberships to the Chennai Superkings Fan Club that will be there on the website. There will be special enclosures for members at the home ground, apart from preferential ticket rates. We want to develop a fan base that will be the Barmy Army of Chennai Superkings.”

Besides for their official websites what needs to be considered is the communities on third party platforms like Orkut, Facebook which are two of the most popular social networks in India (Check india alexa rank here).
