Gifts on Facebook. A New Way to Make Your Brand Visible Across Social Media?
Email It!
Speed Racer, the cartoon I watched as a kid has released in screens across the country today (and indeed the World, I think).
I logged in to Facebook today and noticed the Gift’s section. Everyday (well almost), Facebook has a gift, which readers can send to their friends for a measly price of $1. Today I saw what can be termed as a rarity.

A Speed Racer gift is available on Facebook for free. Seems like a great viral strategy to me. People are likely to pass this gift on to their friends, its something that will stick to the profile page and have high visibility. It will also act as a reminder message in terms of the communication strategy for the Speed Racer movie.

There are 250, 000 free gifts of Speed Racer available. I’m assuming they paid Facebook a little less than 75 cents per gift. This is a great way to advertise a product because it requires user involvement and thus it ensures brand connect. It also seems more non intrusive than the other mediums of advertising because its user driven.
I don’t know if Facebook is following this as a strategy and opening up gifts to advertisers. If it does, it has to ensure that the gift is of real value. The Speed Racer gift is fine because its one of those few ‘free gifts’, but over time I don’t see people passing such things on primarily because they don’t have any ‘gifting value’ i.e. they don’t communicate an emotion. Branded gifts, which can add more value to the gifting experience with a subliminal brand presence are likely to work.

Seems you have not used facebook ‘Gifts’ enough.
Everyday Facebook has one or another FREE gift. I guess sponsored ones, not sure. Even you can search for FREE gifts only there. Try.
Yea i know Facebook has a free gifts application. However that does not appear in the newsfeed. What you and i are talking about are 2 different things. Everyday facebook has a paid gift which you can buy from your home page. It has a free gift application as well, but both are not the same thing. On the paid gifts section you rarely get a free gift. So yes, it is a rarity.
