Big B uses Blog on BigAdda to Bite Back at Ramadoss
Email It!
A few weeks back we announced the launch of the Big B Blog on BigAdda and rubbished it as a marketing stunt for the movie Bhootnath. Last week however we noted that the blog is being updated frequently often giving readers a peek into the superstar’s life.

A recent post by ‘The Big B’ on the blog lashes out at Mr. Ramadoss, India’s publicity hungry Health Minister. A couple of days back (April 30), Ramadoss had issued a statement saying “Drinking scenes in films and serials glorify alcohol use. Youngsters find it heroic and try to imitate them. More so, if it is done by popular stars. Film-makers and other celebrities should make a conscious decision and desist from glorifying alcoholism on screen. We need to emphasise on the preventive part rather than fight after the damage has been done,”

Mr. Bachchan has retorted in his post on the Blog by saying that Mr. Ramadoss should first look to regulate production of addictive substances. He has further gone on to state “With regard to the use of alcohol or drugs of any kind in films, you seem to misunderstand the medium. It is an art form. Good art only flourishes in freedom. Legislating against the use of particular props, such as alcohol or tobacco, in films is a direct attack on such freedom. As an art form, it is not the business of the film industry to promote government agenda. If made so, then it is no longer art. It is mere propaganda, no matter how worthy the cause.”
On Sunday, most of the frontline newspapers carried the Big B’s statements pulled directly off his blog. This particular post has elicited 442 responses so far (at the time of writing this post).
The Big B blog is being updated everyday, and quite frequently at that. Which leads to the obvious question – does he have the time? Probably not. All the posts are possibly being penned down by a writer who follows the Big B everywhere and eloquently updates the blog (this is not to say that the Big B lacks eloquence). The tone of the blog however is commendable – it seems genuine and really makes the reader (read: fan) feel like an integral part of The Big B’s life. The amount of responses that the Big B has got to his posts in the form of comments is an indication that Celebrity Blogs work in India – and HOW!
Aamir Khan maintains a blog which he updates quite frequenty. Other celebrities maintain blogs as well but the lack of content coupled with an ineffective use of the medium (synergy with mass media activities) has ensured that these vehicles have not kicked off.
Incidentally ShahRukh Khan has refused to take up blogging - ‘I can either work hard or blog,’

Folks,
This news is absolutely not related to technology. I’ve been a regular reader of WATBlog and would not like to see it getting sold out to Bollywood and Cricket. I know they both sell quickly. But this is a tech blog. It’ll be great if it sticks t o that !
Hey Harshal,
Valid concern. But i think you cannot discount the fact that technology by itself means nothing. Technology is for people, so when you cover technology you have to try and see how people are using it. In India, the situation has unfolded in such a way that cricket and bollywood are strong cultural symbols. Technology is soon forming a part of people’s everyday lives. So the intertwining of the 3 is inevitable. But you’re right, we can try and include more ‘technological’ analysis.
