Was just looking through Facebook and noticed a feature called Facebook Chat on my Profile Page.

It basically follows an IM procedure where one can see which friends are online and ping them with instant messages.

The chats don’t get displayed on recipients’ walls.

This is a great feature, which will no doubt fuel more interactivity on the already active Facebook.

I have always noticed friends looking each other up on the ‘Online Now’ feature on Facebook and pinging them on their walls or through Messages via their inbox. This is the next step – pretty obvious although it took a long time to be introduced.

PS – Sorry Zarir for featuring you here!

  1. Expect users to spend more time on Facebook now and remain ‘always online’. recently one has seen facebook introduce a lot of modifications to its features all of which have generated results that Facebook expected. Also some features expected - you’ll see your friend’s Mini-Feed activity thrown into the conversation, as it occurs.

  2. It launched on the 6th of April. But it wasnt a blanket launch. I think people in India are seeing it only recently.

  3. correction. mini feed activities in chat are already present.
