La Vision Animation, a Mumbai-based animation, e-learning, and edutainment services provider, launched an exciting new global character christened “Buzziboy” along with the launch of their new interactive Web portal Buzziboy.com.

The service is aimed at children between six and 14 years of age. La Vision claims Buzziboy.com has everything that might interest a children within that age group, i.e. eComics, stories, cartoons, fun learning games, greetings, club, chat, email, and e-mart.

According to LV APL CEO Ashish Mann, “Buzziboy.com is a tool that we are offering to the parents and teachers to help develop soft skills in the kids and impart value-based education through entertainment. It makes learning fun - so that the kids imbibe and practice what they learn.”

The reward mechanisms, conceived to encourage enhanced portal usage by the kids, have been structured to boost their self-esteem through relevant prizes. Instead of the usual goodies, Buzziboy has an option of converting reward points in paying tuition fees, kids’ bank account and mediclaim policies to the kids earning highest number of points.

As part of the school connect programme, Buzzi will reach out to the teaching community to sensitise its members about the utility of using comic characters to impart value-based education. Buzzi will also organise a range of activities across different schools to enhance the top-of-the-mind recall for Buzzi Gang.

It seems like education through the Internet capitalizing on technology coupled with online and offline models is growing rapidly in India and around the World.

One has recently seen Topper Integrated Learning Systems launched by Network 18 and Educomp, which is focussed on the class 8 - 10, and class 12 sector. They provide tips, study material, and tests and aim to capitalize on our country’s obsession of creating ‘Toppers’. They also have a TV Channel called Topper TV currently available only selectively.

There is also GlobalScholar.com in the International Space. We recently met up with Kal Raman from GlobalScholar.com and he outlined how that company too wishes to enter the Indian Market and use technology to streamline education.

They however, are not as ‘entertainment centric’. Incidentally, the GlobalScholar platform also can be used by schools and school districts to enable teachers and administrators to more efficiently and effectively create, manage and align content, assessments, curriculum, standards and supplemental learning to drive educational performance.

Just as an additional piece of Information, GlobalScholar has people like Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon.com) and Melinda Gates (from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) on its board. They also obviously have Kal Raman as their CEO who has a prolific record in the World of Technology (Wal Mart, Amazon, DrugStore.com etc.). You can read more about him here.
