Chandrababu Naidu Gearing up for Elections using SMS
Chandrababu Naidu has launched an SMS campaign to publicise his party’s website, www.telugudesamparty.org, all over the world.

The website itself is pretty impressive. It updates all the party’s press releases and press conferences using YouTube as a back end.

Naidu has instructed the party leadership to ensure that the SMS is sent to all those “who matter” in society. The SMS requests the recipients to visit the party’s official website for an update on what’s going on in the Telugu Desam through its latest news through video uploads and radio webcast.
Apart from that, SMS is also being used as an interactive tool. The scheme is titled “Chandrababu Naidu, just an SMS away”. “People can SMS Naidu by typing TDP (your problem) and send it to 56677.The problems will be brought before Naidu who will reply to them. It will also help the party get a feedback about the problems faced by people and accordingly nuance its response,” said LVSRK Prasad, chairman of the TDP media cell.
Chandrababu Naidu was always known as India’s “Tech Savvy Chief Minister” and it comes as no surprise that he is the 1st Indian Politician to embrace New Media for Campaigning.
We wrote about politicians in the US using New Media. Hillary Clinton and Obama are on Twitter!. YouTube also created a special platform called YouChoose and this culminated as a show on CNN. It’s great to see Indian Politicians embracing the new medium – especially SMS since its proliferation is now wide.
The NDA government had used Mobile Phones as well during the last election where users of Reliance Mobile got calls from A.B. Vajpayee asking them to vote for him. That was one-way communication. The initiative by Chandrabuabu Naidu is interactive and thus more promising.
