One of the best things social media has done is that it has brought access to people within reach to one and all. So it doesn’t really matter what you believe in if you are looking for like minded people to join you all you need to do is log on to a social network and start conversing to find people of similar interests. You would be surprised how many people actually care about what you care..

Talking about care comes to mind an NGO - CRY which cares about children and their well being. CRY has been very social media savvy and had created a presence in secondlife.com the virtual world in order to drive awareness about children related issues.

Now it seems to be taking this to another level by trying to raise funds for various social causes through Secondlife.com. According to Indusgeeks the company which created the SecondLife presence “Office in Second Life is being used to create awareness about CRY among the users of Second Life, while CRY World is aimed at creating a meeting platform which will enable CRY members to interact with each other and discuss the various projects on which they are working. It will be used for fund raising as well,”

I feel more and more social causes and noble initiatives will benefit immensely by the use of social media. Though SecondLife might be just one of the initiatives. The real potential for such social causes is to engage in social media awareness on popular social media platforms that the youth of today uses actively. I’m sure even bloggers would support such causes whole heartedly and help in spreading the word if they are made a part of the awareness drive. I do see this to be a growing trend and one which will bring more good that bad to social community in general.
