For someone like me who could get lost even with a navigator in my hand such seeing such services gives solace that I will survive the dynamic changes that are going to take place to the infrastructure in India and I will be able to find the place Im looking for.

Now Yahoo has added new features which further increases the usability and reach of its india maps. (which are infact  powered by Mapmyindia digital maps). They have launched maps in local languages and with walking directions. The Yahoo! India Maps will be available in nine Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam and Punjabi.

Whats even more interesting is that the walking diections will be smsed  to a mobile phone. Currently Yahoo! India users can search for directions across 179 cities, 4,767 towns, and 2,26,114 villages.  It does seem that localization of content, community and even maps is the way the web is moving towards.
