TutorVista Goes Offline With Tutorial Centres In India!
TutorVista which was primarily an online tutoring firm based out of bangalore and servicing the students abroad on school courses. Now it seems just like how the other India focussed web players seem to be going offline even tutorvista whose main business is servicing the US market is looking at going offline in India.

They plan to go offline in India by launching 20 tutorial centres in Karnataka through its subsidiary Edurite Technologies. They will be looking to scale upto 500 centers in the next 3 years by pumping in an investment of 50 Million $ in content and infrastructure.
The offline centres will be focussed on technology enabled teaching to students in pre-class XII segment which as of date constitutes 82 per cent of the Indian tuition market.
According to Edurite Technologies CEO Srikanth Iyer “20 tutorials have been launched in the first phase — while 11 centres are located in Bangalore, the remaining are in semi-urban cities like Hassan, Bijapur, Davanagere and Shimoga.”
The coaching will be available for mathematics and science subjects for students taking up SSLC, CBSE, PUC and CET examinations. The tuition fees for students will be around Rs 5,000 per subject in Bangalore and around Rs 2,500 per subject in the semi-urban centres.
Tuitions business is a huge business in India. I couldn’t find any numbers on the market size but I expect it to be a multi crore market which is bursting at its seams as most school students cannot survive their years in school without tuitions. From personal experience (from my school days) I can say that teachers who teach in schools earn more from tuitions than from their school salary. So its quite a great untapped opportunity in India. And if tutorvista can get it right with regards to the brand and placement of their centres (As proximity to school is important) then they can surely crack a huge opportunity.

You must be knowing about big investement in Mahesh Tutorials some time back.
Its big big business but over the years I think we need technology penetration in this segment which is missing in general.
And all that happening only in the area of competitive exams for MBA/IITs. I would like to know about similar ventures particularly in India.
Please review our website and let me know if you want to dicuss further.
We have been in business since 2006 and approaching 1000 student mark as of Sept 2008. We are very different from TutorVista because we have a ONE on ONE tutor student established relationship. The student will work with the same tutor if student and tutors both agree if its a perfect match.
Thank you,

This company tutorvista will not exist for long. I was working as a tutor there and i know the kind of people who rule that place and the internal structure is gone to dogs. Offlate they have got more greedy for money and trust me they just dont have any tutors and they try and play arround with just the few tutors that they have. They started a stuff called connect now just try that and you will see that you will never get a tutor on time. You sign up with high expecvtation and then finally you are left loose like a dog on the streets. Things are pretty bad on their end. I think Ganesh and Srini Anumolu first mistake in business and choosing the worng people who just dont care for other tutors like how i was thrown out. Hope Ganesh relises and get out of it soon
