New Launches By Media Co’s CricketNirvana.com & Shine.com
I guess internet is the next destination when it comes to TV and Print media companies. Many of them have already launched a plethora of portals and are using their TV and print networks to promote the same. So the herd mentality seems to have set in and its no surprise that more media companies are looking at following their counterparts.
So Contentsutra reports that Nimbus has launched three portals. Cricketniravana.com, Filmnirvana.com and Showtime.co.in are portals catering to the verticals cricket, bollywood and dvd rentals respectively. Out of these cricket would be one to watch for as Nimbus Sport has been associated with cricket tournaments before and also holds the media rights for all matches played by India in India till 2010. It will very interesting to see how Nimbus integrates its offline content prowess and deals to drive the online portal. It does have tough competition from the likes of Cricinfo and Cricketnext both of whom are backed by major media houses. Do read the interview on contentsutra for more on their other sites.

The other new launch is Shine.com which is a jobs portal launched by HTMedia which had recently launched a media campaign about HTCareers section in the HindustanTimes. Having a new brand of job portal does sound wierd given that they have already spend so much money on their offline brand HTCareers.
To be fair to them Shine is backed by Firefly e-Ventures Ltd the same company that bought desimartini for “less than 10 million”. Im hoping they dont meet the same fate NDTVjobs.com did which shut down after yellojobs.com pulled the plug on their tieup. In this case though it seems there isn’t and HT seems to going on its own though it would be interesting to see again is if they are able to leverage their offline classifieds to make the online jobs business a successful one.
The jobsite business is a mature one with listed players like naukri.com and international players like naukri and other traditional media giants like times groups timesjobs.com. So it wont be easy for shine to shine in this market.

HT’s shine.com seems to be backed by the technology platform of asiajobnet.com
Just try & register yourself on the site(ofcourse..with fake data) it is transferring its data from “myshine.asiajobnet.com”…!!!!
I wonder if all these media cos are spreading themselves way too thin by going after the same niche and markets… Though am no expert on this I sometimes feel a most of these projects are overvalued and could be carried out in a much simpler and cost effective way… but then what do I know :p
Shine.com is another one on the lines of reffster, toostep. I guess we might see a few more portals like this coming up. But shine being backed by HT can help it move ahead of the pack
i think the way shine.com is presenting themselves in the market noone has ever done that… and having print as back up they will do wonders.
Shine seems to be heading in the right direction but still it would take lot of time for them to make a mark in the Jobs domain.
Naukri is still way ahead of all.
