Mobile Email

Read this press release that’s talks of Email@Mobile introducing, what it claims as the “first free mobile email ID”. The news was interesting at first. I thought of accessing all my emails on mobile phones. Through a platform that is independent of the technological capability of the device. This is the next logical step.

But I could not make out the specialty of the offer after going through the complete news and even after checking out the website.

They ask you to point your GPRS-enabled phone’s browser to wap.emailtomobile.com and acces your emails. Well, can’t I do it already with my Yahoo! Mail ? I think I can. Most of the popular portals have their WAP versions (Although WAP is hardly popular) and I can anyways access my Internet from my existing emails if I have a GPRS-enabled phone.

Arvind V. CEO with Adroit Claretdene Infotech, the company behind Email@Mobile said

“So far people have heard the concept of Free Web Mail which allows one to check emails on one’s computer via a web browser, with email@mobile email IDs we have introduced the concept of Free Mobile Mail, accessible on ordinary GPRS enabled mobile phones, which will be more spontaneous, effective, and convenient”

He further added

“There are companies providing mobile access to existing web-mail but the device compatibility and monthly subscription charges are the major constraints”.

Well, I don’t see any reason why these constraints should not be there while using Email@Mobile. I still have to pay for my GPRS connection, and the performance of the page still depends on the browser and the device.

I would love to receive all my mails on my mobile phone. However, I am not very pleased with the Email@Mobile offering.

  1. Get Berry’d!

  2. I’ve a general question about email on mobile:

Have you come across a way to access your corporate email over your mobile?

Corporate email as in Microsoft Exchange server or Lotus notes, or even POP/IMAP server.

Microsoft Exchange has Outlook mobile access, but I think it is for Windows Mobile devices rather than ordinary phones with only WAP/GPRS on them — I am not sure about this, correct me if I am wrong.

  3. Read about the startling news about email@mobile offering free mobile email solution.I think it would be very time saving if one could access his emails on mobile and that too without paying monthly subscriptions as I am already paying for my gprs connection and I don’t want to spend more for mobile email access.
What’s best about email@mobile is that you can create your email@mobile ID from your mobile hand set so there is no dependency on P.C now.

  4. The same here with me also.. i didn’t find anything new or relly very interesting on that website.. and i thought “may be i left something..”

  5. Hi Everyboy,

  7. Ankit,

As for i know if you want to access email@mobile id you can check in basic mobile browser that is wap 1.2 and you need to pay only for GPRS connection nothing else apart from this. I think you have not understood concept properly. Can i know which hand set are you using to access you email.

If you want to access all your email over mobile then you can forward all your mails to email@mobile id.
