Youtube Co-Founder Turns Venture Capitalist.
Youtube is one of the webs most well documented successes. It can be awarded the most revolutionary innovation since the invention of television given the sheer distribution of video that it has created and has feeded on the long tail of video viewers be it on blogs or on youtube itself.

Now one of Youtube’s co-founders Jawed Karim has gone ahead and launched his own venture capital firm known as Youniversity Ventures and its mission statement reads something like this “We help talented teams with innovative products to take the next step. We provide mentorship, expertise, contacts, and access to capital. Youniversity Ventures is focused on former and current students at Stanford University and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. “
Its interesting to see that someone who has just created a successful enterprise as an entrepreneur has moved on to help other entrepreneurs. A similar trend is very much required in India. Where foriegn VC’s have flooded the market when what’s actually required is entrepreneurs who have been there and done that. Besides for the Indian Angel Network there are very few successful entrepreneurs who have jumped on to funding and hand holding other enterprises.
To name a few Indian entrepreneurs that I would like to see as future VC’s or Investors and who I think can add tremendous value to any budding entrepreneur and entreprise are Ajit Balakrishnan of Rediff, Sanjeev Bikhchandani of Naukri (He has initiated some investments but through Infoedge) and on the mobile end Neeraj Roy of Hungama.com. Any other names anyone can think of?
