Now Local Language SMS Alerts – Netcore & OneIndia.in Tie Up

Local language is hot right now be it social networking, local search and now even sms group messaging service. MyToday (which also powers watblog’s sms alerts) has tied up with OneIndia. (one should note that Rajesh Jain of EVentures has invested in both Netcore which owns Mytoday and Greynium which owns OneIndia). This tieup would enable MyToday to start providing local language sms alerts. Now with mobile having the largest penetration with over 280 million subscribers and sms being enabled on all of them it does seem a great move to go vernacular when it comes to a group sms player like MyToday.

The other strong player in this segment is smsgupshup from webaroo whose founder we intervied not too long ago. On this move of adding local language capability through this tie up Abhijit Saxena, chief executive officer, NetCore Solutions had this to say “Language is a big space. We have created media on mobile (with the MyToday Dailies service), which will now have regional content apart from English and Hindi. There are many local language channels on television which are viewed as much as Hindi and English language channels. So, it was a no-brainer for us to get into the local language content space.”

One india is available in 4 south indian languages which are Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam so im assuming that the tieup will bring these language specific sms capabilities to Mytodaysms.com which is netcore’s flagship product and is claimed to have over 3 million users would have these languages.
