We had recently blogged about the live streaming of ICL Videos on WatchIndia.tv. Also there has been tremendous buzz on the IPL front and teams and players being bought for astronomical sums of money by filmstars and corporate czars alike. Now it seems the same trend has rubbed off the to what seems to be the poor cousin of IPL the ICL.

For the first time an online portal has bought the sponsorship rights for an entire cricket team. Bharatstudent.com which has been in the news for wrong reasons as well before has bought the official rights of the Hyderabad ICL team.

Mr. Himanshu Mody, Business Head, Indian Cricket League (ICL) said, “Our pioneering effort with the twenty over format at the ICL has caught the fancy of the youth of this country who have been looking for fast paced entertaining cricket. I am sure our association with Bharatstudent as the team sponsor for Hyderabad Heroes, will be a fruitful alliance as both cater to the youth of this country.”

Fruitful or not but it will surely be useful in attracting the cricket fanatic users (even though there might not be that many fanatics behind the ICL as compared to the IPL) also it will be interesting to see how bharatstudent really leverages on a national scale given that they have bought a city based team and engages users from other cities as well.
