Zapak To Organize National Gaming Tournament!

Zapak seems to be leaving no stone unturned when it comes to evangelising gaming in India. So even though i dont agree with their spend millions on anything which even has the g of gaming even though it may not be connected to online gaming at all and they are surely doing a good job when it comes to organising gaming tournaments. So whether it was the zapak corporate gaming tournament or their earlier Zapak Gameplex championship, Zapak has been very aggressive with its gaming tournaments since last year.
Now Zapak is organizing ‘Zapak Gameplex Battlefield’ a National Gaming Tournament. The tournament will sponsored by Logitech and the media partner for the tournament is AXN. This tournament will be held in 11 cities across India at Zapak Gameplexes from 7th March to 30th March 2008 on weekends.
Whats interesting is these gaming tournaments are targetted at hardcore pc and console gamers as the games that gamers will compete on are games such as Counter Strike 1.6, Flatout 2 and FIFA07. Zapak being a purely online gaming portal its interesting that they keep attracting hardcore gamers and organise such gaming tournaments inspite of these gamers being more focussed on pc games and would rarely actually go online and play a game on zapak. But I guess its more about building a brand connect with gaming as a whole as far as zapak is concerned.
Mr. Rohit Sharma, COO, Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd., said “Gaming thrives on competitions and what better way to nurture competitions than through Championships. This has been the key reason behind creating and hosting ‘Zapak Gameplex Battlefield’. However unlike other gaming championships, ‘Zapak Gameplex Battlefield’ will be National Championship operating from regional grounds rather than focusing only on metros; after which we will escalate this to a national level. Our aim is to give equal opportunity to all gamers across India.”
Zapak is offering prizes worth above 11 lakh rupees. Prizes worth Rs. 19,000 are up for grabs every week in cash and game time, with the winning team in Counterstrike bagging Rs. 7,000 and the FIFA 07 winner pockets Rs. 3,500. The winner in Flat Out takes home Rs. 3,500.

They are using their Gameplex infrastructure extremely well. I doubt this battlefield event is costing them too much in terms of variable expenses considering all the sponsorships and tie ups.
