Google is looking to go mass in India and provide its adwords platform to an audience which may not be as web savvy as required and hence it has announced new forms of payment for placing ads on google search pages. Google announced yesterday that it would now offer payment for adwords by cheque, demand draft and net banking. This announcement considerably increases the opportunity and exposure of advertising on google to a lot of small time and non net savvy advertisers.

To execute the same Google has tied up with TimesofMoney for the electronic payment gateway solution. Timesofmoney was recently in the news regarding the remit2home fiasco where in they were ordered by the law to let go of the domain to remithome the company that does india to Philippines money remittances. Timesofmoney had launched wallet365 as well which didnt take off as they got into trouble with government regulations. Hopefully they dont get into any other kind of trouble while rcieving payments for google from advertisers.
Shailesh Rao, MD, Google India whom we recently interviewed on WATShow said that he hoped that more Indian advertisers will be able to grow their business through AdWords by recognizing that Indian businesses prefer to conduct transactions not only by credit cards but also by cheque and electronic funds transfer.
This move wil surely help adwords penetrate the SMB (Small medium Businesses) segment. Think of all the local businesses like laundry, small hotels, shops which can use Googles phenomenal city wise targetting adwords to make sure that they are reaching their local audience and at the same time paying only for the clicks and not for space like they do in print. Though I do feel that on google’s end it would have to do a lot of customer education in order for this to really become a reality.

The google adwords, Axis Bank, online bank transfer does NOT work!!
It just says FATAL ERROR..
well I did some testing…
and found the url, I was being led to(to make the payment through the Axis Bank Online Funds Transfer option):
“htp://www.utibank.co.in/……”
HEY GOOGLE INDIA the UTI(Now Axis) Bank’s “co.in” address does NOT exist!!
So wake up…..and put the correct address so I can make my payment!!
Thanks sammy for the update.. I hope google is listening!
Google adwords… I am advised to pay a cheque in favor of google india through Citibank. well the bank will definitely debit the amount to the payee’s account but how will I recieve the confirmation? How can I be sure that google adwords has come to know that certain amount was sent by me (no e-mail address allowed in cheque!)? What if the amount sent is less or more than the required? Will the Adwords pay us back by way of deposit, or won’t they?
