Paymate the mobile payment solutions company has started spreading its wings beyond India. Paymate has tied up with Bank of Ceylon (BOC) a Sri Lankan Bank. With this new tieup BOC banking customers will now be able to make their monthly electricity, water and telephone bill payments via SMS.

Ajay Adiseshann, MD and Founder, PayMate said “Partnering with Sri Lanka’s largest bank is surely a feather in the cap for PayMate. With mobile penetration growing at 30 % each year, the Sri Lankan market presents a unique opportunity for m-commerce and we are excited to be first SMS based mobile payment service in the country. While the convenience of being able to pay anytime, anywhere via mobile will enable the growth of m-commerce, it’s the simplicity and ease of use that gives PayMate the cutting edge over other m-payment platforms. To add to this, we have also planned several promotions and offers to encourage BOC customers to experience the service.”
Recently Paymate had launched sms advertising as a way to monetize its sms payment services last year and now it has extended its services beyond India. Mobile payments is a competitive space with players like obopay entering the market earlies this year even though mcommerce as an industry is at a nascent stage. In the future mcommerce is likely to take off with money transfer through mobiles as per the recently concluded Digital summit.

Dear All,
If someone is looking forward to the most lousy online service in the world, then please go for paymate.
1) The payment authorization takes ages. I dont understand why it’s not instant when it is online.
2) The customer service is pathtetic. The email goes un-replied and the phone calls are not answered.
3) Friends, i would suggest you better purchase directly online thru credit card instead of goin thru paymate, it is secured and faster.
Short live paymate…..Amen….
