Google has launched Google Sites which is rehashed version of jotspot which was acquired by google in 2006. According to some Google sites is a direct competitor to microsoft’s sharepoint.  Google sites actually puts the power of creating/collaborating on a website in the hands of a normal user where he can add all other google product functionalities like google docs, calendar etc to his website. The reason this service has been termed as a sharepoint killer is because it is free where as sharepoint charges a fee. Dave Girouard who is overseeing this application at google feels that this is as good as “adding an edit button to the Web”

Wiki like collaboration and web creation tools have been around like socialtext, 37signals and even indian ones like cyn.in which offers a enterprise version in cynapse as well. But Indian SMBs have been rather slow in adopting these wiki like tools for website creation and team collaboration. It remains to be seen how googles entry into this actually affects adoption. I still feel that Indian web players are light years behind in catering to the needs of the underserved SMB market.
