Interesting - though i think the numbers are miniscule. Probably in the next election one will see bigger numbers. Im not surprised Obama is doing well in Twitter - he is known to be tech savvy and whoever is managing his account is doing it reasonably well. On the other hand Hillary i think is not going all out on Twitter because she probably wont win the vote of the Twitter happy crowd anyway.

I would have liked it if you gave us some idea of the nature of the messages. That would have lent some insights as well.

@ Rajiv - i think it makes perfect sense for the lead India winner because it is a largely urban 'on the iternet' audience following him (which basically means his following is miniscule) - reality shows are a farce arent they - but i think its a great move on his part - an opportunity for him to build a brand; a microsite that could leverage great returns in the future.

@ Disha - 20 years from now you'll see our candidates on twitter - when there is a significant vote bank online. 3.5% of India on the internet (and discount the non voting and not eligible to vote population) so about 1.8% of India on the internet is not an interesting enough prospect for any party.
Also we dont have presidential elections in this country :p

I see a lot of potential for this in India as well. I m not surprised <a href="http://www.watblog.com/2008/02/28/lead-india-winner-to-launch-social-media-site-changeindiain/" rel="nofollow">the lead india winner is planning his own social media site</a>.

@Pratham,
ya, Thanks I missed that point in hurry... It's like if I follow you.. your updates will be shown on my "with other" feeds... but mine will not be shown on yours until you follow me...so edited the post...
basically I suggested "to follow" to let others know about your existance... that's what Obama is doing...you can see the difference in number of followers of both...
I hope it is clear now what I wanted to convey...

Interesting post, Rupesh.
In case if you were not aware then Bill Clinton too is on twitter. He has total 73 updates and following 23 people. He had last updated on 10 Feb.08. Seems like at least he understands (to some extent) your point of following people on twitter more than Hillary:)

A very nice, post, Rupesh.
Good insight.
So, finally, politicians are waking up to the significance of Web.
Nice to see these people using a tool like Twitter.
I wonder when can we see this in India?

"if you follow someone on twitter, your updates are shown in his/her “With Others” tab"

Though I'm not a huge Twitter user, that sounds a little off. Do you mean I can add someone as friend and spam their "With Others" feed without them doing anything ?

Or if they follow me, then my updates appear in their "With Others" feed ?
