Facebook, last year’s media darling has been giving users quite a few problems lately. Question is - are the Facebook servers strained?   When i was lazily logging in this Sunday afternoon, a message appeared. It said: There’s not too many people in India on Facebook - atleast not as many as there are on Orkut but i really do hope that ‘maintenance’  finally gives the user a better experience - and quick! Users online are fickle and it takes very little for them to move to similar products with better experiences. True, there is a certain amount of inertia associated with products like FaceBook but one has often seen that this kind of inertia does not continue for too long for e - businesses.   In the mean time, can anyone help me out with the mechanics behind a site like Facebook crashing? And Why it might have crashed, and what it needs to do or rather what is it currently doing?

  1. ok now i know some of you may say - “but why did he blog this … after all MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger etc go down all the Time!” - well thats true, but the first time i read it i was like - “what the hell is facebook doing with all my data and social information i put there” - it has a lot of personal investment in terms of time and profile creation put there - so i thought that matters to internet consumers and decided to blog it.

The fact that so much time is invested i think is an argument for inertia existing among facebook consumers. The number of active consumers on facebook is at about 60 million and growing.

Facebook by the way is now up and running. I think the problem was brief but many people from all over the world have faced it.

  2. Dude, let this be your shortest post ever

  3. this has been happening quite a few times in the last few months… but there’s something weirder, the ‘hours’ delay have been ‘minutes’ many times… and as minute as refreshing the page and then being able to log in, so hopefully these are only small glitches :)

  4. yea hopefully! everyone needs their daily dose of Facebook :)
