February seems to be the month of self realization for entrepreneurs where they seem to be realizing that if it is important to create then its even more important to destroy what you create at the right time. Thats what seems to be happening in the Indian space. February could easily be christened the month of startup bust. And at the forefront of this action is pluggd.in which has done a fantastic job in covering the list of busted startups.

Lets see which startups are no more..

Jhoom.in - Jhoom.in was a social network (like many others) - We had covered jhoom.in in our india 2.0 series way back in 2006. over one year later and there is no sign of the startup. Jhoom did some local events in mumbai and some of them were with bollywood stars as well (as far as I can remember). But as they say if you aint got something special you aint gonna survive.

serajaSEraja - The other startup to throw in the towel is the eventweb SEraja which we reviewed before. SEraja was also one of the startups I met at the first edition of Proto.in in January last year. The SEraja guys at that time were covering the proto event in real time. Its sad that the startup couldn’t scale. The reasons given by the people behind SEraja was “Lack of Focus”. I guess that the single most important factor startups should consider in the early days. But as blogged recently one startup goes and another one comes up.

  1. hey the link to Pluggd in not the right 1.

I don’t think this is month can be tagged the “month of realization” yet. Might just be a beginning. Also, it is interesting that dotcom burst hasn’t taught enough. Guess this is just a continuous cycle.

Just a few days back, I blogged my opinions around this: http://tinyurl.com/32b47c
