Orkut To Release Apps In 2 Weeks!

Orkut has announced its opening of platform to developers way back in November. Since then there has been no news as to when would these applications finally be seen on the orkut platform. But now the orkut blog updates all on the issue with a statement that soon some of the orkutters would be able to add and experience these applications. Soon in this case would be as soon as 2 weeks.
Despite of the rising popularity of facebook orkut is still the biggest social network in india as according to alexa orkut is the 4th most popular site in India while facebook is 11th. But as the trend shows facebook has jumped from being the 29th most popular to the 11th while orkut has fallen from the 2nd most popular to the 4th in last 4-5 months. Primarily because facebook opened registrations and ofcourse opened its platform to developers in a big way last year.
With Orkut launching apps almost a year after facebook launched it it will eb interesting to see how users on orkut use these apps given that some of them might already be fatigued with the no of apps on facebook. Also the innovativeness of these apps would be of prime concern or else orkut would end up looking like a me too of facebook. More such questions and answers when the apps launch. I have my fears about this. I have been an avid user of Orkut. A year back i used to get personalized wishes for festivals and my birthday.
today my scrapbook is dogged with automated mass-scraps.
When i login to facebook i find a chain of such unintelligent automated application requests from my friends, to which i find no sense in responding.
The warmth of real conversation, an essential element of social interaction, hence social networking sites, has been replaced by a clamour of noises of application.
Orkut will need to make a difference by ensuring that its applications are noiseproof.
