IDEA Mobile Launches IDEA Radio - Ties Up With Geodesic’s Mundu!
Mobile Radio is something Mundu has been propagating since it launched this service way back since 2006. Finally it seems like all their hardwork in getting international radio on mobiles through mundu will start paying off. This is because IDEA is now launching IDEA Radio a mobile radio service for its subscribers for which it has tied up with Geodesic’s Mundu Radio.

So in effect for mundu the service would be available to IDEA’s 20 million subscribers who can tune into to listen to a range of entertainment channels. This wont be a free service as the subscriber would have to pay to the service through their GPRS- enabled mobile handsets. Thought flexible subscription options are also available, including Rs 149 per month or Rs 10 per day are available.
Kiran Kulkarni, managing director, Geodesic said on this occassion: “Mobile devices are the preferred mode of entertainment today, and the Idea Radio implementation is representative of Geodesic’s stated strategy to provide innovative, revenue-enhancing mobile solutions to service providers. We are proud to have our Mundu radio technology provide a competitive edge to Idea.”
According to tying up with an operator does help mundu tremendously to reach a wider audience within India. The other kind of innovative digital radio service that I know of is radioverve which primarily streams independant music online. I feel there is tremendous scope for audio content (podcasts, radio etc) both on internet and mobiles as its one of the things you can do even as you are on the move or even distracted i.e. you are reading a book or eating etc. Its not the same with video as watching require you to be stationed in front of the screen looking at it.

I hope Mundu radio does well.. cause Idea does not market its VAS products as well as Voda / Airtel / Reliance. (why dont VAS vendors have some communication budgets)
