Blaze through your inbox in a blazing fast Shatabdi

On my last trip to Delhi, in the Rajdhani Express, I saw a couple opening up their laptop and watching a movie within the train. Another one there was using his Reliance data card to surf the Internet. It was too tempting; I almost felt like opening up my laptop and start doing any damn thing. Do what? Arrey doesn’t matter, as Richard Branson says, “Just do it”. Kyaa karna hai, wo baad me dekh lenge.

But the problem is the Internet is something that I was looking for. I did not have a data card then (and although I have it now, I do not intend to use it and wait for forty-seven minutes just get my Google Mail page open).

So, I was absolutely delighted when I read news in the Economic Times that Railways plan to offer WiFi Internet connectivity in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.

Reportedly, the railways stations are already being WiFi-ed. 50 stations will be covered for Internet access. RailTel, the Telecom and IT wing of Indian Railways has conducted tests to ensure that the Internet connectivity will work on running trains.

Besides this, the Railways also plans to open Cyber Cafes in around 82 railways stations inIndian Railways plans to set up WiFi access at Railway stations the country.

Most of the work in railways has already been computerized and the network is now upgraded with the Optical Fibre Cable to provide blazing fast connectivity to the passengers.

The facilities on the trains will be provided free of cost to the passengers.

I am eagerly waiting for the day when I can blog about my railways experience Live from the train itself.
