Bus Ticketing seems to be coming of age. I had first heard of online bus ticketing back in early 2006 when rajnationalexpress a part of the raj travels group was having full inventory bookings purely through its online site. After that many players like redbus, ticketvala and others have jumped on the bandwagon of bus ticketing.

Now it seems with time even bus ticketing services are maturing. The following are the updates from this segment:

Redbus adds regional language capability

redbusredBus has introduced 5 languages on their site - Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. It is one of the first sites in the travel space to go multilingual. I guess the need arises from the fact that bus booking audience in the future could increasingly come from tier 2 cities and as you can see the language addition has been primarily for the consumer from south india where language does play and major role even on offline communication.

redBus, India’s largest online bus tickets company, has introduced 5 languages on their site - Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. It is India’s first travel site to go multi-lingual. Mayank Bidawatka, Head Marketing, redBus said, “Our site is accessed by many who prefer the local language. Secondly, we noticed many local language blogs and sites that are doing very well. This was a clue that customers prefer this to English. More so, we are India’s first travel site to be introducing such a feature. We are sure customers will take to this.”

Just today we blogged about the trend of how indian women have started blogging in indian vernacular languages so this move by redbus does look like a very smart move when seen in that light.

Ticketvala claims 1 million bus ticket sales!

ticketvala Ticketvala today claimed that they have crossed 1 million in transactions since its launch in July 2007. Ticketvala.com enabled customers to book tickets via the website or call center and also offers the option of home delivery.

“We foresee a phenomenal growth in this market and believe that the changing paradigm of the consumers and bus operators will help boost the market. We are also delighted to see the eagerness with which the bus operators are adopting and adapting to new technologies and systems. It is a clear endorsement of our belief that there is huge opportunity and potential to organise this sector using technology” said Mr. Haranath Lokanadham, president & chief executive officer, Travis Internet Pvt. Ltd. (ticketvala.com)

Its seems like this space is hotting up and im sure other travel players which are currently in air ticketing and which have already started venturing into rail ticketing will start looking at the bus ticketing space as well.

  1. Online bus ticketing experience has improved a lot. I Tamilnadu, the leaders in this space are http://www.ticketgoose.com. They have more routes and tickets to offer than redbus or ticketvala

  2. The cancellation process is not good in redbus as they are not refunding the money instead they are offering coupon for the next journey what about if at all we cancel the journey?

  3. My experience with redbus.in .

I tried booking through their site and it ended up in error msg after paying them through online. I tried their customer care number and for them sunday is holiday.. and no service.. I called them on monday ..told they get back to me with 2 min.. no response .. I called them after 1 hour.. same thing happend ,,, Iike that I called them 6-8 times ..

The worst experience I ever had from a sevice provider..

Actually they are using a 3rd party payment gateway service and they will give
the information after 1-3 days.. may be it will take 1 week also..

After 2 days they called me and told they recived my payment and they dont
have any seat for me. Best Service..!!

So take care while booking tickets from redbus.in .. you will end up in
    a error message.

  4. Several new online bus ticket booking service providers are available. Please try http://www.elinebus.com. They seem to be excellent in customer service and very prompt. With so many players we should go to the ones who serve us best.

  5. please dont foolish the public with such above false news.nowadays we the people like us never giving respons to such false articals

  6. Hey good to hear about booking bus tickets online. I just want to know whether I can book the tickets using Cash Card.

  7. Yes you can book thru ItzCash Card. You will get the card home delivered.

  8. Yes Ravi, you can book the redbus tickets using the ItzCash Card. The card is readily available at the ItzCash outlets spread across the state or else you can order the cards at your home which you’d get delivered within 3 working days.
