Demystifying Social Media Marketing!
Email It!
Last week we had a team meeting in our office where we discussed a very relevant point: 5 years from now will the world use web 2.0 sites as a traffic generator or as relationship building?
Here are the office stats : 80% believed in relationship building while the rest believed in other way round.
I personally feel that Social Media Marketing (SMM) is surely the next big thing. SMM is a form of Internet or Online Marketing. It aims to achieve its branding and marketing goals through various social media networks, social web applications and through various other sources like 3D virtual worlds like second life, active worlds, etc.
Why do we need SMM?
The reasons why one should also opt for SMM are as follows: With the introduction of social media consumers started opposing the passive way of receiving communication from marketers, they have now become contributors contributing to brand messaging. Apart from consumers point of view every company has different products with unique features to offer its consumers hence their marketing campaign also differs. Over here SMM plays an important role of creating brand awareness, increasing visibility, encouraging feedback, online reputation management and also to sell a product or service.
So in case you are convinced enough and now you wish to go for it then here are few tips that you must keep in mind.
Patience: You need to have patience as it takes time for SMM to work for you. It has a great potential for any business model. When properly executed you get your hard earned fruits.
Conversations: Opening up to your customers and interacting with them directly through communities in social networking sites like orkut, facebook, etc or through blogs and social bookmarking sites helps you to get a better visibility and also attract potential clients. Listening and responding to your clients grievances will surely boost your company image.
Writing off content: Tactics like creating a blog for off content like personality development, discussing personal and other issues or questioning them about who they are and what they want helps to create goodwill.
Keywords: You need to research keywords that will help your visitors find your site and your product.
Trends: This is as important as keywords. As a seller you need to understand what trend is the market (buyers) following. It will help you to identify the perfect time to launch a new or improvised product. You can also find new offline markets following the trend with the help of google trends.
SEO: SEO also plays an important role. You can follow these seo guidelines that will help your website to get optimized in a better way.

Landing Page: This plays a vital role. A good landing page reflects a good image of the company. Most of the people find this to be toughest job. But for me it is one of the easiest one. Here is a basic example of how simple a landing page can be.

Optimised Profiles: Your Company Profile should have few important keywords which will help search engine to optimize them. Besides that you need to write few para about your company, product, employees and clients. Besides this company can also have their profiles on social networking sites for a better visibility.
SMM is a huge concept and I can just keep adding many aspects to my post. So I have tried to figure out few basic points. Hopefully it was useful.

Good ideas in here.
Regarding Landing Pages though… I think so much more can be done than the things you mention. Consider this excellent landing page from a company that my good friend Mike McDerment runs: FreshBooks.
They really put their customers front and center, which inspires confidence. Also, I like how they make contact info so prominent.
hey john i have already mentioned in my post that smm is a very huge concept and i can just keep on adding. over here i have just tried to keep smm and also “landing page” as simple as i can. as it will also benefit amateurs.
Nice post Rushabh - some pretty interesting stuff - there are so many aspect within social media - u’ve given a good overall framework.
SMM can also be contextual. audiences are now spending more and more time on social media.
Advertisers need to be better at listening.
I think Rushabh has done a brilliant job on the posts. Some brilliant images that explain a lot of about how things work.
However, here are some key fundas!
He must have shown how different is SEO from SMM
How SMM is advantageous from SEO
The posts should had a lot of content within it giving people an understanding what SMM exactly does indepth..
All brilliant content and brilliant stuff! Great work and good going!
hey ronak i do understand. but giving too much content would had made it lengthy. i do have future plans of writing few brief posts based on the content that you have mentioned above.
“I personally feel that Social Media Marketing (SMM) is surely the next big thing.”
Your a little late in saying that. LOL
thx for commenting media misfit.
we are among the fortunate people who are aware that “smm” is the next big thing. but what about the others? there are still many bloggers out there who haven’t yet discovered the potential of smm. hence my this post is manly dedicated to all of them.
