Online photo printing is one helluva crowded space. With over 15 (the last time i counted) players offering pretty much the same thing. There has been funding in this segment as well which has actually increased muscle power of the competition. As if there weren’t enough players one more known as G.K. Vale which is one of the oldest (they have been around since 100 years as an offline player!) photo printing and photography equipment retailer based out of Bangalore has joined the bandwagon with its site GKVale.com which offers Upload & print apart from customized photo gifting and photography related goods.

To go to market in a big way GKVale has hired Percept Knorigin as its online agency. Percept Knorigin was in the news before for winning accounts like WAYN.com. On winning this account Viraj Malik Managing Director - commented that Percept Knorigin will be working on 360 degree communication strategy for GK Vale which would involve not only working on promotional campaign but also on CRM and Usability aspects of this application. We are excited with the prospects of online photo printing industry in India and this market is all set to boom in coming months, we strongly believe that offline photographic leaders like G.K Vale will be able to deliver much better quality and service to people who are looking at professional quality prints and services.
It will be very interesting to see how this market of online photo printing finally looks in 3 -5 years time. Im hoping some consolidation happens and the big players (atleast in terms of funds) can acquire the smaller players. I guess regional marketing may also work in this kind of segment as players from a certain region would be able to advertise and gain market share in that region.

Hmmm !! GKVale has a strong offline presence. I guess Dogearsetc guys (http://www.pluggd.in/2008/02/dogearsetc-goan-startup-ditches-vcs-and-approaches-public-to-raise-funds) are now gonna have a really tough time for their “IPO”
