After Web 2.0 The Next Boom Expected From Art 2.0?
C3CUBE Multimedia a Delhi based company has come up with plans of launching Indian Art & Culture Site Indiaquest.com
Raja Choudhury, CEO, C3CUBE Multimedia, said, “We are going to build a few Internet properties like a large Web 2.0 cultural site about Indian culture called Indiaquest.com. We are launching it around the summer. It will be both an educational and a social networking marketing site for artists. It will be targeted towards painters, dancers and writers. An artist will get a chance to promote himself/herself through the site.”
It seems many entrepreneurs are now changing their strategy and targeting the people from the artistic field. Way back in 2006 Indiatimes had launched a website Indiatimes Art with a view to show cast the works of Indian artist to the potential buyers. Also offering online art advice on investing. The field of art certainly has a huge potential both from buyer and sellers perspective.
In the year 2005, the Art industry in India witnessed the biggest bid ever. The famous painter Maqbool Fida Hussain was sold his 125 paintings for 1 Billion (100 Crore Rupees) to Mumbai based Swarup Group of Industries.
Besides that, In an online auction held by Saffronart for two days in December 2007, S.H. Raza’s ‘Maha Bindu’ fetched $652,000 beating Tyeb Mehta’s ‘Untitled’ which sold at $602,500. Overall about $8 Million sale took place in the auction.
It wouldn’t matter whether you are a famous painter or an amateur as long as you have a great Marketing and a PR team backing you. Only being good at art wouldn’t help without their assistance. I definitely feel that after Web 2.0 the next boom will be Art 2.0. It will be interesting to see how successful C3CUBE will be and how other players in the industry respond to it.

Great analysis – thanks. More than being an attempt at being another porfolio site for artists to show their work our broader concept is to create a social network/marketplace for all aspects of Indian culture (from art and dance to architetcure and film) and also create a magazine, calendar and wiki-type environment for the exploration of Indian culture. We are partnering with organizations like ICCR and others and aim to launch with a rich set of tools as well as some very useful rich content. I will keep you posted as our project evolves further.
hey Mr.Raja thank you for commenting. i am looking forward for an update on indiaquest.com
