Books – Most Sought after Items Online

new research has revealed that more books are sold on the Internet than any other product and the number is rising.

Neilsen Online conducted a survey of 26, 312 people in 48 countries, which found out that about 41% online users had purchased books.

2 years back – the figure was at 34%

The Figure is quite comprehensive and geo diversity is also quite great.

What isn’t exactly clear is the fact that – are these books hard copies or are they e – books?

If they are e – books then it shows a change in people’s mindsets. I ask this question primarily because one needs to consider the fact that people buy tons of books to create mini libraries – books, which they may not necessarily have done a lot of justice to. More often than not it is the idea of “showing their books to others” that motivates them to buy more. Also, a guy who has a stack of books is perceived as intelligent.

I doubt they would be e – books though because currently reading books online is a pretty tedious task. Moreover, most ebooks are available for free on torrents or websites such as e – snips.

Nielsen has said that much of the rise in online book selling was in emerging markets, such as South Korea and India, with British consumers in 10th place. I disagree with Nielsen’s statement that South Korea is an emerging market – it is anything but emerging. Highest broadband penetration, highest average broadband speed in the World – a pioneer in gaming. What was Nielsen thinking? :)

During the study, it was found that the largest percentage of people buying books in any country was South Korea at 58 percent. 58% in South Korea amounts to 18 million people. In the US, about 57. 5 Million Consumers have bought books online – and this amounts to about 38% of Internet users.

India’s figure here is quite interesting – it stands at 46%, which is not surprising considering most Indians who are literate and educated are online. Once the Internet penetration increases manifold, I expect sales to go up but in pure % terms, I think the number will be slightly lower. As I have said in my post on Indians Shopping Online, %’s don’t amount to anything!

China stands at 48%, a figure for all you Indo – Sino rivalry fans! :P

Here is a list of Global Book Buyers:

1. South Korea – 58 percent 2. Germany – 55 percent 3. Austria – 54 percent 4. Vietnam – 54 percent 5. Brazil – 51 percent 6. Egypt – 49 percent 7. China – 48 percent 8. India – 46 percent 9. Taiwan – 45 percent 10. UK – 45 percent

It will be interesting to see the figures with respect to actual numbers as opposed to %’s and also numbers with respect to the accumulated value of sales.

I dunno how true it is but have learnt that amazon has not found much traction for Books here in India as in other market . However it sounds quiet feasible that books sell more than anything else considering the fact that Books do not require a touch, feel or test unlike other products

Being a fan of both Asterix and Tintin I got a deal which I think was worth every rupee. I visited this site called IndiaPlaza and found that they had an offer where you buy the entire asterix collection and the entire Tintin collection is yours for free. This is an offer not available with any other online site in India. They also have other great deals on a whole lot of products.

And coming to the delivery of the goods purchased, I was really surprised
that the goods were delivered in excellent condition on the promised date.

I think the people in this community who love to shop online this is a must visit. You can use the link below to reach there.

The motivation accessing and buying is not MERELY for reading. In many countries the motivation is to COPY, BOOTLEG materials.
