2DMovie.com is an online movie-serving platform for regional cinema. It has Malyalam titles. 2DMovie.com has announced that it will acquire additional movie titles for Rs. 50 lakhs.

Pradeep Nair, from the creative team of 2DMovie.com, said.

“The investment would go up as the demand increases,”

The portal works as a platform for the Indian cinema and allows the downloads of movies, at a price.

Nair further added

“Since its launch in December 2006, the portal has been catering to a wider audience, particularly the non-resident Keralite (NRKs) from the UK and the Gulf region. Users can either rent a movie of their choice from the site or purchase its licence. Our concept provides for a unique and legal channel to sell new and old movies,”

The portal has attracted a lot of traffic, particularly the NRIs from the UK and the Gulf countries.

The portal is looking at ad-supported free distribution model at a later stage, Nair explained

“We would bank on advertisement revenue on the site to make the offerings free. A slew of campaigns targeted at the film buff on the websites of leading Malayalam dailies as well as Google ads have already created an awareness,” Nair added.

They further plan to open up the platform for independent filmmakers who might not get
a distributor easily. The portal may work out a deal on the revenue-sharing basis for such projects.

The rates for rentals of the movie is $2 and for purchase, $9. The rates may vary according to the money that 2DMovie.com paid for the acquisition of the content.
