Shifts in the Internet: Rajesh Jain Speaks @ Proto.in

Reference web to incremental web – people are contributing a lot more to the web. They do not only use it as a source of reference.

W3 to N3 – www to now, new, near.

Text to Rich Media

Search to Subscriptions – Interests can be subscribed to and information will come

Advertising to Invertising – Advertising getting more permission oriented, “not push”.

Opportunity on the Web in India

For a long time it was International models attached to India.

India has a large domestic market, there are lower start-up costs, and middle India is an opportunity that can be tapped.

Fulfillment of local needs of Local India the way the Nano will – has a great marketing opportunity. I personally stress on this a lot in all my posts but Indian companies need to be culturally and need relevant.

More firms in India are now looking at growth models where they grow within India and then expand that model Internationally. This is a great shift from what was previously seen i.e. Internatinal models fit to Indian needs. Novatium is one such example.

Some Opportunities in India:

Mobile Data

Computing as Utility for Homes

Mobile Payments and Commerce

Healthcare Databases

Education for 200 million

So what’s needed?

Leadership

Big Bold vision and goals + Real Venture Capital

Brains

Recognize the Opportunities

Ecosystem Thinking

Guts

Accept the Challenges

Willingness to bet it all

Acceptance of the Risk of Failure

Be a leader, if you have a plan, get up and start working on it. If you don’t then get a plan. And when you become successful, be sure to thank Rajesh Jain and WATBlog
